Johnson Salako
This is the blog of Johnson Salako, CEO of MPS Technologies Limited – a telecommunications company based in Nigeria. This blog will explore various aspects of Mr Salako’s professional life as well as a range of topics relating to the telecommunications industry in general, such as the building of Nigeria’s critical communications network, highspeed broadband penetration within the country, and the future of telecoms within Nigeria.

Nigerian National Broadband Plan
There is currently a significant element of insecurity within Nigerian society, partly due to poor telecommunications infrastructure (such as a lack of CCTV security). 2022 saw several particularly distressing incidents including attacks, ambushes, and abductions. Moving forward, MPS Technologies Ltd will be managing Nigeria’s national security communications system for the police and other security agencies in a bid to improve this situation.
The Nigerian National Broadband Plan 2020-2025 aims to achieve 10Mbps and 25Mbps internet speeds for rural and urban areas respectively, at a price not exceeding N390 per 1GB of data. As of July 2022, the internet speed in the country was 9.40Mbps in rural areas and 10.25Mbps in urban areas, according to Speedtest. Broadband penetration in Nigeria hit 44.5% in the same month.
MPS & Nigeria
MPS Technologies Ltd supports the vision of the Nigerian National Broadband Plan, as it aims to build Africa’s most reliable and secured network. The company’s mission is to offer unrivalled and seamless connectivity for its customers as well as a range of managed cloud services, managed IT solutions, and more.

5G
In Nigeria, the journey to 5G has started, and the implementation of this technology will result in better telecommunications services – most notably increased internet deployment in the country. The move to 5G also positions the country as a viable market for the next advancement in global telecoms.
The rollout of 5G across Nigeria, an endeavor to which MPS Technologies Ltd will significantly contribute, is expected to drive further innovation in the telecoms sector. It’s predicted that telecoms networks will become more stable throughout 2023 and broadband coverage will further increase – although affordability in relation to broadband services is likely to remain an issue for most people.

Objective
When fully deployed, the rollout of 5G technology is projected to bring many benefits and opportunities to Nigeria in terms of accelerated growth and smart living. Furthermore, 5G is expected to contribute $2.2 trillion by 2034 to the global economy, according to a report published by GSMA Intelligence.
